Crossing Istanbul by writer and director Levan Akin is a warm and sympathetic movie about the search for a trans woman in the Turkish city.

Towards the end of the movie Istanbul is described as a place where you can go to if you want to disappear. 

To add to this, you could argue that someone who is presumed lost may not necessarily want to be found.
