Lady Voyeur (Netflix series, 2023)
Lady Voyeur is a weird but not so wonderful mix of movies like Rear Window and Fifty Shades of Grey, stretched out into a limited series.
Olhar Indiscreto, as it is titled in Brazil, tells the story of Miranda (Débora Nascimento), a skilled hacker who also happens to be a lady voyeur.
Every day she hacks into the camera system of an apartment across the street, which houses high-end escort Cleo (Emanuelle Araújo).
One day, Cleo asks Miranda to take care of her dog while she is away for the weekend.
While at Cleo’s apartment, Miranda meets one of her clients, Fernando (Nikolas Antunes), and immediately falls in love with him.
After that, the crime plot kicks in, where Miranda investigates the life of her new boyfriend’s brother-in-law (Angelo Rodrigues) who is suspected of human trafficking.
I wanted to see Lady Voyeur, because Hitchcock’s Rear Window is one of my favorite movies and the voyeuristic angle can provide interesting insight into human behavior.
Unfortunately, in this case the writing isn’t good enough to pull it off and even in the first couple of episodes this show just manages to go from bad to worse.
The actors look beautiful and Lady Voyeur maxes up the voyeurism, but the attraction remains purely superficial.
I’m a big fan of romantic thrillers, but unfortunately, this one isn’t very good.
