Pleased you got to see 'Black Dog'. I've enjoyed 4 of the director's movies, and this was my favourite. China is shining... especially in its bleakest movies.

Did you see The Eight Hundred? I saw some clips on YouTube. I don’t mind violence, but that’s pretty extreme. Which of his movies is your favorite?!

'Black Dog' is my favourite, but of the four I've seen, each feels like it was made by a different director. You'll understand if you watch all (which you should).

'Cow' is a dark comedy about a peasant put in charge of the village's bovine, and his intent on looking after it after the villagers vanish.

'Mr. Six' could've been a full-on action movie but instead spent more time on the central character's moral code in a world losing its rules. I appreciated that focus.

War movies are violent so don't let that deter you from watching 'The Eight Hundred'. It was epic, but being Chinese meant it never got attention in the West. Sure, it never focused on characters, but the situation was compelling alone. If I recall, best to watch at night with no lights as it was darkly shot.

Thanx Mike, I appreciate it. The Wild Goose Lake is already on my list, so I’m going to try to see that first!
